FMP Week 2 : More Concept

A slightly late update about the week. To put everything simply this week I finished off the concept requirements for the project.

The most important part of the concepts for me here was to finish three more detailed concept paintings that highlighted the three areas of the level I want to be key areas of focus. The blue base, the orange base and the center of the map.

I am REALLY happy with these paintings. They not only show the environments I want to build but also show the kind of style I want to make the level in. This is very important to show as the hand painted style of the project is vita ot the project. These paintings took 2 to 3 hours each which I'm fairly proud of. I always paint quite quickly and I like what I've created considering the time constraint. They aren't the most polished final concept art promo peices that they could be but I also really don't need that and producing something that took longer might of been a significant waste of time.

A large chunk of my time this week was taken by hospital visits and medical concerns but I still managed to get those main things done. The extras I managed to work on gave me more detail and work I can look back at to help me create assets.

This rough asset list gives me a better idea of what exactly I want to create. It also like the larger paintings helps me to refine the style I want. One of the big things in the hand painted style I want is this champhered outlined edge that makes everything look like a hand painted model. In these quick asset sketches I tried to show that.

This is concept for one of my stretch goals for the project. I want to try and have extra time when working on the project to make the buildings be able to shoot and move. It will give me a real chance to work on engine and particle work as well as a little bit of animation. As I'll be working on this near the end of the project it will be a really good change from making and painting assets.

So at the end of the week I've got a very confident place of what I want to create. The level's ideas have all come together now and the next step is to build everything. In week three I'm going to start building the ground of the level and related assets.
