Moba FMP Week 16

Just a quick update on where my FMP is. I haven't been able to put a whole lot of work into the project during these last weeks, due to obvious problems. I'm okay with this however. The project currently is at a 'finished' state. It might not be perfect but I have completed the environment as I said I would in the FMP brief. The level really is starting to look alive, now that the assets and ruins float and move and shift. Now its just working on either stretch goals or reiteration.

The main thing I worked on was reiterating the castle for the blue side of the map. I wasn't too happy with the original. It was one of the first asset sets I made for the level and it shows. Its sloppy even for my kind of kit-bashed style.

The original was many seperate assets with their own texturing and I changed them for one completed asset instead. This lets it have slightly more involved painting and texturing and just looks far smoother. It now matches the orange side of the map more, with more of a natural looking curve to the castle grounds.

This was the other main thing I've been working on, making a stylised smoke texture. The original texture for the smoke particles was too messy for me and didn't really fit. Now this smoke looks much better, although there could be more work put into it.

My next steps are lighting and perhaps more particle effects. Lighting wise I have just been tweaking the lighting. I recently changed to Distance Field Ambient Occlusion that gives slightly softer shadows that fit the style more but I know I can do more about that. It would be nice to have butterflies and such things in the air. One stretch goal I would like to do is animating the arms of the orange side. The issue is that I really know nothing of animation, we were only taught the bare bones once and thats completely unrelated to what I need. I need to teach myself and put some time in. Its going to be hard as its not a default human skeleton, its a secular arm with strange proportions. It would add so much to the level to have though, so I want to work on that.
